Georgetown University finds success at Season Opener Tournament hosted by Northwestern

The Georgetown University Debate Team had a very successful showing at the Owen L. Coon Memorial Tournament hosted by Northwestern University (9/17 – 9/19). This tournament was the first tournament of the season and of this year’s legal topic.

Georgetown brought six varsity teams to the tournament. After six rounds of preliminary debates, Georgetown CH, Georgetown KL, and Georgetown GW finished with 3-3 records. Georgetown ZZ, Georgetown LW, and Georgetown MS finished with 4-2 records. Georgetown ZZ and Georgetown MS narrowly missed participating in the elimination rounds on points. Georgetown LW however debated Pittsburgh in the doubles and lost on a close 2-1 decision. Georgetown LW also defeated the Dartmouth team who won the NDT last year during the preliminary debates.

After a strong start to the season, the squad is excited to continue competing at the University of Kentucky tournament from 10/1 – 10/3!
