At the 2021 National Debate Tournament, Bernardo Medeiros and Zidao Wang (both C ’24) cleared to the elimination rounds as the 21st seed at the tournament. They lost to a team from Wake Forest ranked 8th in the nation. Multiple sources (new window) ranked Medeiros and Wang within the nation’s top 30 partnerships overall for the season.

Georgetown had 3 teams total competing at the 2021 NDT, the maximum number permitted per school. All three teams were still in the tournament heading into the third day of competition, and the team of Kathy Martinez (C ’23) and Kieran Lawless (SFS ’24) missed clearing to the elimination rounds by only one ballot. Sophomores Kelly Anderson (SFS ’23) and Ethan Greer (C ’23) also had a strong tournament.

With all six debaters competing at the NDT in their first or second year of collegiate competition, the future is bright for Georgetown Debate!
