Georgetown Debate Keeps Momentum with Regional and National Wins

During the weekend of October 14-16, Georgetown KL competed at the University of Mary Washington’s fall tournament. Georgetown KL consists of Georgetown third-year Haritha Kumar and Yale first-year Addie Lowenstein.

Georgetown KL had some great wins over the course of the weekend and made it to the quarterfinals where they lost to a team from CSU Long Beach. The team KL lost to from CSU Long Beach went on to win the tournament’s open division.

Georgetown also strong showing at a major tournament with Georgetown LW finishing in the Octofinals of the Gonzaga Tournament. Over the weekend of October 29 – 31, Gonzaga University hosted roughly 80 Open teams both in-person and online. Georgetown sent two teams in person (GW and LW) and had two teams compete online (CM and KS). Georgetown LW continued their successful run this season with a 4-2 preliminary record, a 3-0 win in the Double Octofinals, and a 2-1 loss in the Octofinals to Wake Forest who would later go on to win the tournament.

CM & KS competed for the first time as partners and had some great wins. Extra special shoutout to first-year Aayush Murarka (CM) who had his first college debates at Gonzaga!

The last tournament of the season is coming up this weekend and is hosted by Wake Forest University. Be on the lookout for results as we send teams and coaches in person to finish the season strong!
