Our Philosophy

Georgetown’s commitment to pedagogy and proximity to the intellectual and cultural resources of the capital created a unique environment that shaped a generation of policy debaters. In 2009, we relaunched our summer program with an innovative curriculum that has been refined by the nation’s very best debate coaches at the high school and collegiate level.

As coaches and debaters of one of the nation’s most successful debate programs, we are pleased to be able to have the opportunity to share our experience, philosophy and our campus with high school debaters. Our staff is committed to ensuring a quality experience for all attendees.

Our Faculty

The Georgetown Debate Seminar hires highly-trained staff from the best debate programs around the country. Each summer, our faculty includes nationally recognized coaches and successful collegiate debaters who bring a wealth of experience in research, strategy, and pedagogy. Many of our instructors have coached teams to success at the National Debate Tournament, the Tournament of Champions, and other major competitions. Our low student-to-staff ratio ensures personalized feedback and mentorship, allowing each participant to develop their skills in a supportive and intellectually demanding environment. Above all, our faculty is dedicated to fostering a passion for debate that endures beyond the competitive season, helping students become stronger thinkers, advocates, and citizens.

For debaters, there may be no better place to be than in Washington, D.C. Our proximity to the Capitol gives our students access to opportunities no other debate camps can provide. We bring in experts on the national high school resolution to help guide your research and argumentative strategy for the upcoming season.

The Georgetown campus and neighborhood, in addition to their beautiful and historic nature, are very safe areas. All public areas of campus are well-lit and routinely patrolled by campus police. All exterior doors to the dorm are locked at all times and students must swipe their Georgetown ID card to access the building, elevators, stairwells, and dorm rooms. The safety and security of our students is our top priority.
